Abstract

ln regard to God, Agostinho's thought is not confined to dogmas or to nihilistic rationa­lism, but rather inhabits the cosmic blast and man's creative imagination. It is a notion of the absolute consubstantial to divinity. Therefore, the relation existing/non-existing or visible/invisible does not avoid mystery nor does it blind the edge of reason. This dialectic, more Platonic than Hegelian, poses the question of God and Liberty unveiling semantics. The generous complexity of his concepts informs the exercise of fecund pedagogy that distinguishes the author among the best thinkers of Portuguese philosophy, full of creative intelligence and ethical behavior. It will be the perfect conjunction between cosmology and the intuitions of faith, which, powered by Love, according to Dante, "moves the sun and the other stars". This is confirmed by his own vision of the future: "the children's reign and the sacralization of the beasts and all things''.

José Santiago Naud, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)

Natural da região missioneira do Rio Grande do Sul, graduou-se em Clássicas na Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras da Universidade Federal, Porto Alegre. Professor no Colégio Estadual Júlio de Castilhos e pri­meiro diretor do Instituto Estadual do Livro, teve em 1958 o primeiro encontro com Agostinho da Silva, de quem publicou a primeira edição de Um Fernando Pessoa, nos Cadernos do Rio Grande. Professor pioneiro de Brasília em 1960, integrou o corpo docente fundador da UnB, reencontrando em 1962 o mestre, com quem trabalhou no Centro Brasileiro de Estudos Portugueses (CBEP). A partir de 1966, lecionou em Yale, UCLA e outras uni­versidades norte-americanas ou européias. Então foi contratado pelo ltamaraty para dirigir o CEB/Centro de Estudos Brasileiros, na América Latina (sucessivamente, Bolívia, Argentina, Panamá e México). Poeta e ensaísta, tem dezenas de títulos publicados. Aposentado pela UnB, em 1992, reside em Brasília.
