Abstract
According to the concept of political languages proposed by J. G. A. Pocock, the negative opinion (1806) of the censor António Ribeiro dos Santos regarding the publicarion of Análise sobre a justiça do resgate dos escravos da costa da África is opposed to the thought ofits author, bishop José JoaquimAzeredo Coutinho, in order to highlight the mulriple political and religious trends that were presem in the Luso-Brazilian Enlightenment.
