Abstract

In society and in school, the Camões’ Rhymes continue to interest new readers and propose new challenges. To understand Camões is not simply to know that he existed, to learn that he has an exceptional value in the canon of Portuguese literature and to accentuate his symbolic value. To know Camões one needs, above all, to read his poems and to accept the challenge they present. Through the example of Dinamene, this text emphasizes the interlinkage between the celebration and the study of Camões, which is resposable for the popularity of the classical poet across time.

Author Biography

Maria do Céu Fraga, Universidade dos Açores

Professora Associada, com agregação, da Universidade dos Açores. Doutorou-se em 1997, apresentando a tese Os géneros maiores na poesia lírica de Camões (publicada depois pelo Centro Interuniversitário de Estudos Camonianos). Integra o Centro de Estudos Humanísticos da Universidade dos Açores, e o Centro de Literatura Portuguesa da Universidade de Coimbra. A sua investigação e publicações centram-se nos estudos camonianos e na literatura portuguesa dos séculos XVI e XVII (além de Camões, Diogo Bernardes, Faria e Sousa, bucolismo, relações interliterárias peninsulares), mas abrangem também a literatura açoriana (v.g., Gaspar Frutuoso, Armando Cortes-Rodrigues, Roberto de Mesquita) e temas do ensino da literatura.
